The eight Women's Business Partner Roundtable was held on April 23, 2008 at the Embassy Suites in San Luis Obispo.   Keynote speakers included Lucia Cleveland, Founder of The Spice Hunter™ and Camay Arad, Founder and Owner of Chameleon Home™

OCTOBER 2006

MCSC completes it's first customer satisfaction and economic impact survey - The 2006 Listening Project!   Click here for the final report.  The survey was independently evaluated by Opinion Studies in San Luis Obispo. 

110 People attend the 6th Women's Business Partner Roundtable in Paso Robles, CA on Oct. 27, 2006.   The Roundtable celebrated the recent award of the SBA Women's Business Center grant with Keynote Speaker and founder of MCSC; Anita Robinson.   Also, MCSC Graduate Victoria Lowrie told her "From Vision to Venture" story of success!


SEPTEMBER 2006

MCSC receives a Notice of Award for a $750,000 5-year grant from the U.S. Small Business Administration!   This grant will fund the Women's Business Partners Programs

DECEMBER 2005

Seven individuals graduated MCSC's fourteen week "From Vision to Venture" course in Bakersfield on December 20, 2005 at La Colonia Restaurant.  This was the first Women's Business Partners class completed by MCSC using Women's Economic Ventures "From Vision to Venture" curriculum in Bakersfield.

Thirty-eight individuals graduated MCSC's fourteen week course "From Vision to Venture" in San Luis Obispo County on December 8 at the PG&E Diablo Information Center.   Most of the graduates completed their business plans and approximately 75% intend to pursue small business loans to implement their plans during 2006.  Congratulations Graduates!


NOVEMBER 2005

Nine Spanish speaking individuals successfully completed Mission Community Services’ “Starting Your Own Business” class and celebrated graduation Tuesday evening, Nov. 15th at the Far Western Tavern in Guadalupe.   The class was presented entirely in Spanish and was sponsored by a grant from Mid-State Bank & Trust.

120 professionals, mostly women, attended MCSC's fourth Central Coast Women's Business Partners' Roundtable at the Madonna Inn on Friday, November 11th.    Mrs. Phyllis Madonna shared her story of how she has realized her own strength as a businesswoman while learning to run the family business enterprises after her husband, Alex Madonna died in April 2004.

AUGUST 2005

JUNE 2005

MCSC and the Mission Business Information Center moved to the Creekside Career Center at 4111 Broad St. in San Luis Obispo.  The partner agencies and organizations housed at the Creekside Career Center jointly operate the One-Stop Career Center System and have access to the collective resources of many separate federal, state and county programs to enhance the productivity and skills of the local labor force, and to assist local employers with their needs.

JUNE 2005

Women's Business Partners held its third bi-annual Roundtable at the Fairways at Dairy Creek with 70 attendees.    Keynote speaker Maggie Cox of Barnett Cox & Associates shared stories about struggles she overcame in establishing her very successful public relations marketing firm in San Luis Obispo.

MAY 2005

MCSC's Spring 2005 From Vision to Venture 14 week self-employment class graduated 21 students.    Each student produced a business plan or in the case of one, an exit strategy for a previously owned problematic business.   Graduation was celebrated on May 24th with students, their families and special guests Harry Schade of Cuesta College and Anita Robinson of Mission Community Bank at the Marie Callender's in Pismo Beach.

OCTOBER 2004

Over 50 women attended the Women's Business Partners 2nd Roundtable.  Mentor Circle members Marlaine Sanders, President of San Luis Personnel and Alana Reynolds, owner of Wings of Wellness (in photo below with MCSC Director Andrea Zeller) received awards for their assistance of protégé entrepreneurs.  Several protégés were also recognized for their diligence in pursuing their individual business goals, being supportive of other protégés and actively seeking advice from their mentor:  Deanna Delkener, Dora Espinoza, Gretchen Hambright, Sara Becker, Elaina Geltner, Mary Turnbull and Sharon Ownes-Avery.   

Also in October, MCSC received a generous cash grant of $250,000 from Mission Community Bancorp.  This $250,000 grant enables MCSC to continue providing Central Coast and Central California small businesses with valuable assistance, counseling and training in finance, management, marketing, procurement and access to the United States Small Business Administration’s programs and services.  Click here to see Mission Community Bancorp press release.

AUGUST 2004

Fourteen students graduate from MCSC's Bakersfield Spanish Entrepreneur Class!

JUNE 2004

From January through June 2004, we had a total of 203 clients visit the Mission Business Information Center a total of 470 times!   

MAY 2004

Fifty-three women attended the first Women’s Business Partner Roundtable at the Madonna Inn on May 28th and heard speaker Florence Alberts describe the history of women entrepreneurs.   Twenty-eight of the women who attended the Roundtable signed up to participate in on-going protégé/mentor groups. 

APRIL 2004

Entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Monterey County and Hartnell Community College to deliver services to individuals in the north Central Coast region of California.

MARCH 2004

Women's Business Partners "Mentor Circle" met to plan an exciting mentor-protégé program to be kicked off at an SBA WNET Roundtable event on May 28, 2004.

FEBRUARY 2004

Held first MCSC Loan Proposal Workshop where participants learned how to prepare and present business loan proposals.   Ratings by participants were high!  

DECEMBER 2003

Seventy-two individuals visited the Mission/SBA Business Information Center over 389 times during 2003!  Twenty-two individuals graduated from the WEV Self-employment Training class held in the BIC.

NOVEMBER 2003

OCTOBER 2003

Received California Franchise Tax Board letter of approval for exemption from state franchise or income tax.

AUGUST 2003

Received the Mission Community Services Corporation IRS 501(c)3 Exemption Approval Letter

Entered a Co-sponsorship Agreement with the Cuesta College Small Business Development Center and the US Small Business Administration to host the Mission Business Information Center

Entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Women's Economic Ventures and the Cuesta College Small Business Development Center to leverage the separate resources and experience of each partner in order to provide comprehensive business information and support for women-owned businesses.

FEBRUARY 2003

Entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Cuesta College Small Business Development Center to co-locate and coordinate technical assistance services to small businesses.
